Annual Toll Rate Adjustment Approved by NHA

A recent statement by the National Highway Authority (NHA) is one that passengers are likely to hear with enthusiasm, as new fee rates on the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway (M2) have been announced. This increment is approved starting August 26 2025 to August 25, 2026 under the background of an annual adjustment stated clause in a concession agreement negotiated on April 23, 2014.

This contract is associated with Motorway Operations and Rehabilitation engineering (Private) Limited of the Frontier Works Organization (FWO). With this arrangement, which is based on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model, toll rates should increase by one percent every year starting on the second year of the operation of the motorway.

Updated Toll Rates for Cars, Jeeps, Taxis, Wagons, and Buses

According to the new schedule of toll rates, motorists may have to pay as follows: Class 1 vehicles (Cars, Jeeps, and Taxis) will be charged at the new rate of Rs. 1,330 which means an average of Rs. 3.72/kilometer. In the meantime wagons (Class 2) will have a charge of 2,240 Rs. plus 6.24/km and Buses 3,130 Rs. plus 8.73/km.

Increased Toll Charges for Freight and Heavy Vehicles

Adjustments are still greater in the freight industry. The Two-Axle Trucks (Class 4), earlier to pay Rs. 3,000 (Rs. 8.55/km), will now pay Rs. 4,460 (Rs. 12.45/km), and the Three-Axle Trucks (Class 5), which previously had to pay Rs. 4,000 (Rs. 11.11/km), will now pay Rs. 5,800 (Rs. 16.20/km). The most expensive is the Articulated Trucks (Class 6) whose toll comes to a massive Rs. 7,460, or a rate of Rs. 20.83 each kilometer.

NHA’s Response to Public Concerns on Toll Hike

In response to concerns that any such increase is unwarranted, the NHA assured users that it is integrated with a long-term measure to sustain and improve the infrastructure of the motorway under a BOT scheme.
